Gov. Chet Culver is pressing the Statehouse Democrats to push through his 700 million dollar bondissue. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20090203/NEWS/90203014
Im so glad that I seen trails will be on the list of things to build.I think they are nice but right now thats something that needs to be put on hold. I have never used a trail nor plan on it. One thing I do use on daily basis is our highways and bridges and they are in pretty bad shape loads of pot holes and are real rough. Are the bridges safe we go over? Guess we are taking our chances when we go over one.
I want Gov. Culver to go over a bridge thats near me that goes over the Des Moines River over by Oskaloosa Iowa Eveland access. Have his limo driver go the speed limit and make sure Gov Culver has a full hot cup of coffee in his hands! It is full of pot holes from one end to the other its one huge speed bump on both sides of the road. It has a sign on it that says it will be due to be repaired starting this fall but with budget cuts I can see it being put off now with a new sign hanging on it saying, Sorry It can't be fixed at this time Uncle Chet! At Least close the thing before something bad happens to someone. Anyone on a motorcycle that flys up on it to fast and doesn't know the area will be in for a big surprise later this spring. I sure wouldn't want to drive over it on a motorcycle. Least not very fast if i had to.
I also see in his proposal is for mass transit as I live in rural Iowa im sure this isn't going to be of any use to me. Other than in Des Moines and other big cities mass transit just isnt gonna help alot of rural folks out. That was one thing i kept hearing last summer was that I should conserve and use alternate means of transportation out here in boonies of southern there are no alternate means provided.
In rural Iowa there isn't many choices other that of a car or I have 2 feet and a thumb and maybe a horse if i had one but that would take all day to go to Wal-Mart and back and they dont have a hitching post out front. Or the last thing i can think of is a motorcycle. Can only ride it limited amount of time a year. Im also no Lance Armstrong and into riding bicycles 100's of miles my knees and hips hurt to much for bicycle riding. There is no mass transit buses or rail system that I could ride to town to do my shopping either. If there was a speedy alternate means I would take it.
As far as road construction goes im not totally convinced that this would help Iowans out who are out of work. Most of the road construction crews I seen last summer was from out of state companies and from the looks as I drove by seemed to have employed alot of hispanic laborers. I don't care as long as it gets done but I want to see as many out of work Iowans hired to these jobs that would be created first.
To me when we want this package to help out Iowans that need jobs this isn't going to do it. All I can see coming from this is money to be spent with very little ideas of how many Iowans it could put to work. Borrowing on our future in shaky times doesn't seem to me like the right thing to do. But its full speed ahead for Uncle Chet and dam the future of Iowa.
